In common with all new parents, the birth of my first child changed many things in my life. One of those fundamental changes has been the way I think about my writing and myself as a writer. I began this blog as a way to create accountability for myself, to provide some insight on the balancing act that is parenting and writing and the overall process of both as they have and are unfolding for me. This blog helps me (and as it helps others, I'm very glad to hear about that too) understand that parenting and writing can be symbiotic ways of being, creating, and living in this world.
This blog initially started as a one-month experiment and manifesto to consciously change the way I viewed the distracted minutes of my day, to be more purposeful with regard to art and writing, to stay curious about its process, and to share quite honestly the reflections, challenges, and gratitudes. I frequently draw on beautiful, often famous works of art to explore and remind myself of these very long traditions of art, writing, and parenting.
I am the author of the chapbook Mother Tongue, (Dancing Girl Press, 2018). My poems have
appeared in Barrow Street, Poet Lore, The Cortland
Review, and elsewhere. I have a MFA in poetry from the University of
Maryland and a MA in English Literature from the University of Vermont. I'm a recipient of Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference work-study scholarships to
support my writing. I have a great husband and wonderful father to our daughter, who also supports my writing.
Thank you for reading, and if you feel inclined to share your thoughts with me on parenting and creativity, please do use the contact form. I'm always interested in learning more insights from others.
